I am a huge dog and animal lover. These are lessons I have
learned from my dogs. -
1. Stay in this moment – right here, right now. The present
is a gift.
2. KISS - Keep it Simple Sweetheart. Be grateful that you
have a roof over your head and enough food for today. Everything else is just
gravy.
3. Appoint yourself the welcoming committee. Every time
someone from your pack comes back home, give them a hero's welcome. Let them
know that they are the most important person on the planet to you, and shower
them with kisses.
For extra credit, jump up and down, doing the Yippee Dance,
and then run circles of love around them! J
4. There is always
time for a belly rub.
5. Go for a walk twice a day. Studies show that you
rejuvenate and re-focus your energy when you walk outside, especially around
nature. Inhale the fresh air, listen to the birds, take in the scenery, soak in
the vitamin D from the sun, and relax your mind. Think of it as a walking
meditation - just walk and breathe, and shake off the stress.
6. Take a nap. A
20 to 30-minute nap can improve your mood, make you more alert, and help you to
perform better. Sleep deprivation has reached epidemic proportions. Snuggle up with
your dog, your perfect role model for sound sleep.
7. Greet the day with an up and downward dog, two familiar
Yoga stretches. Dr. Oz says one of the best things you can do for your body is
to stretch before you get out of bed every morning. Your body can tighten up
over night while you sleep. Especially as you get older, it's best to wake up
and stretch before you get out of bed in the morning. This is why I included
gentle stretches in bed with My Workout Wake UP Call – Motivational Alarm Clock
Messages.
So start your day with an up and downward dog or two. Watch
your dog for instructions.
8. Walk or run
barefoot in the grass or in the sand every chance you get. The
electrons in the earth optimize your immune system, which you receive through
your bare feet. This is my dogs’ #1 favorite activity.
9. Shake off stress. Get unstuck by shifting your energy
with a full body shake. Follow your dog's lead, and let it go.
I was honored to participate at the recent Hidden Riches Experience
event in San Diego, hosted by renowned thought leaders and My Wake UP Call® “Messengers,” Chris and Janet Attwood –
My Wake UP Call to Passion, Marci
Shimoff – My Wake UP Call to Love,
and Debra Poneman – My Wake UP Call to Success messages.
Deva Premal and Miten were among the list of luminaries who
took the stage that weekend. Being one of their millions of fans around the
planet, I was thrilled to get to be up close and personal with them.
After singing for us, Janet asked them how they manage to
stay grounded, while flying around the globe on their non-stop World
Tour. They shared that they start every day by grounding themselves. They
literally shaking off stress from their bodies for 15-minutes every morning, and
taught us how to shake it off, too.
I love this practice and now shake off stress every day,
whenever I feel the need. Sometimes I shake it off right along with my canine
role models.
10. Be your man’s (or woman’s) best friend. When a human in
your house looks sad or stressed, go give them a kiss. If they bark at you
in a moment of stress, show them some unconditional love. Give them a couple of
minutes to cool down, and then go snuggle up in their lap. After all, they are
only human.
Bonus Tip - Our dogs’ names are Hope and Faith. (Their middle
names are both Charity.) Repeating their names regularly every day reminds me
to have Hope and Faith…and that I do!
