Dad and Mom got their Captain and First Mate Licenses to pilot the Floating Arts Center. Dad was piloting the boat up the Mississippi River. The Coast Guard had tried to stop dad from piloting the vessel on Lake Michigan. They said it was a passenger vessel, and therefore not properly licensed, as people came on board at times to tour the vessel, (not while moving.) So dad ignored them. The next day, dad was auditioning a clarinet player in WI, as he was in need of an additional clarinet player. The Coast Guard came and took dad away in hand cuffs! Dad hired her as he was being led away! Senator Heinz from PA, hired a lawyer to work to get Dad out of jail. Meanwhile, the people in that community begged the Sheriff to let Dad out of jail to conduct the concert, which had been scheduled there for months. The Sheriff led Dad up on stage in handcuffs, removed them, and sat on the side of the stage while dad conducted the concert, and expressed his views about the Coast Guard. After the concert, the Sheriff took Dad back to jail for non-compliance with the Coast Guard. They had told him not to travel to the concert site, which he ignored. Dad's lawyer advised him to tell the judge that he was sorry. So he told him he was terribly sorry. The judge reduced his possible sentence of five years in jail and a $50,000 fine down to $300 parking fine for the boat!

Robert Boudreau, founder and conductor of The American Wind Symphony Orchestra, shared memories at daughter Robin Boudreau Palmer birthday party in November, 2010.  He talked about founding The American Wind Symphony Orchestra, and building his first Floating Arts Center, with the generous support of Heinz mogul, Jack Heinz. Dad told us that he missed a large party thrown by Mr. Heinz in his honor.  Dad had stayed at the Floating Arts Center, to finish painting it with the workers, instead of attending the party to meet Douglas Fairbanks, Paul Getty, and the other famous dignitaries and movie stars, whom Jack Heinz had invited to meet dad. Dad was unaware of the star studded guest list, at the time. He had thought he should stay to complete the work on the boat before the first concert on it the next day.

Mr. Boudreau tells about being in the audience watching daughter Robin co-star with David Cassidy in JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT and how he told the audience members near him that Robin is his daughter! Mr. Boudreau also tells about being hit by a police car when he was 13, when his bicycle chain broke and how he broke 110 bones in his body. He let go of his dream of being a baseball player and learned to play the trumpet, which led to him becoming the founder and conductor of the American Wind Symphony Orchestra, which travels around the world on a floating arts center. One of My Favorite Maria Shriver Moments at The Women's Conference!

I would like to share one of my favorite Maria Shriver moments at The Women's Conference this year. (There were many!)

While we were on the walk with Maria's March on Alzheimer's, I saw Maria and told her, "You are one of my three favorite people on the planet - you, Oprah and Jesus." Without missing a beat, Maria exclaimed, "Well, that's good, because all three of us are here at The Conference!"
